Here’s some good news from the Windows Phone 7 team: The XBOX Live HUB is now up and running in the latest internal build of the OS. Here’s what Michael Klucher had to say:
My Windows Phone 7 device has really become my phone. I keep it updated with the latest builds and use it as I would any phone I’ve ever owned. I play games(from App Week), check my email, listen to music, and surf the web. This week started out like most others, I flashed my phone, entered my Windows Live ID, and went into the Games Hub…
Whoa! That’s me! By me of course I mean my Gamertag, Avatar, and latest Achievement in the Games Hub! I couldn’t believe it, we’ve had the Games Hub working for a while, but up until now it’s been on internal networks inside Microsoft. This week was the first time I really got to see my “true” gamer identity on the phone.
In that moment everything that we’ve been talking about and everything we’ve been showing became so very real to me. I mean here I was with Xbox LIVE in my hand! It’s an incredible experience to see something that many of us have been working on really come together and shine.
It almost goes without saying that I’m so excited for the Windows Phone 7 release this holiday, and can’t wait for each of you to have the same experience I did of having the Xbox LIVE experience on the phone! We’re getting closer every day and it will be here before you know it. There’s a lot more to talk about from E3 this year, but for now I just had to share with you my excitement of seeing this working.
XBOX Live is going to be Windows Phone 7’s main differentiator against its competitors (even though Apple has now implemented similar service in iOS 4), with more than 25 million subscribers worldwide Microsoft hopes that the integration of the service into its mobile OS will help its (WP7) adoption in the more casual / consumer market. I just hoped we would here more about Windows Phone 7 during this year’s E3..
