A T-Mobile employee has uploaded partial GLBenchmark 1.1 results of the upcoming HTC Glacier handset a few hours ago. Many blogger think that the score of 1432 Frames in the GLBenchmark Pro ES 1.1 CPU Skinning is a proof that the device is powered by the new MSM8260 or MSM8660 dual-core Snapdragon. Well sorry to disappoint you but this probably isn’t the case at all. First off performance doesn’t scale like that (you can’t just multiply x2 previous single core Snapdragon results and claim that this is how the dual-core will perform. Secondly, my HTC HD2 is faster at this particular skinning test. See the results below:

But how is that possible?  See only the CPU skinning results of the HTC Glacier are rported so I decided to check out my HTC HD2 CPU Skinning results and the screenshot above is what I got (2184 vs 1432) . UPDATE: Geez…my mistake folks, for some unkown reason I was mistaking the HD ES test and Pro ES test ! But the fact remains that we  shoudn’t  base our performance exceptions just on the results posted on GLBenchmark (especially a single test result). There are many variables to take into account especially the driver version being used during the benchmark run. So what is powering the HTC Glacier? I don’t really know but it may be a “normal” Snapdragon with updated drivers or probably the new QSDx50A clocked at 1.3 with the Adreno 205 GPU.
