Garmin’s D2 series has always asked a lot of its buyers. Aviation-grade features, a niche user base, and a price that comfortably clears £1,000. The new D2 Mach 2 Pro lands at £1,249 in the UK and finally makes the cost sit right. The addition of Garmin’s inReach satellite system and integrated LTE means this is no longer just an aviation watch with a flight-bag theme. It is a genuinely capable communications device that happens to be ICAO-friendly.
- Garmin announced the D2 Mach 2 Pro on 14 April 2026 at SUN n FUN; it is Garmins first aviator smartwatch with inReach satellite and LTE connectivity.
- Key features: 1.4-inch AMOLED, titanium bezel and sapphire lens, built-in LED torch with Red Shift mode, up to 24 days battery in smartwatch mode.
- Aviation suite covers advanced aviation maps, weather, pilot health monitoring, two-way satellite text/voice and PlaneSync compatibility.
- Retail price is USD 1,549.99; the UK list price translates to approximately GBP 1,249 inc VAT through Bournemouth Avionics and partners.

The hardware is classic Garmin flagship. A 1.4 inch AMOLED display, titanium bezel and polymer case, sapphire glass, and a custom aviation watchface that cycles METAR, direct-to, and nearest airport in a layout a pilot can read at a glance. The crown is the familiar tactile feel Garmin has refined since the Fenix 6. UK strap options include leather and fluoroelastomer combinations that survive a British summer without the odour problems older soft-silicone bands developed.
What inReach adds for UK pilots
inReach is the point. For UK general aviation, Class G airspace above moorland, Welsh coastal flights, and highland approaches are places where phone coverage drops out for miles. Two-way satellite messaging, SOS with Garmin Response monitoring, and point-to-point location sharing mean a Mach 2 Pro on the wrist is a credible last-resort communications layer if the aircraft radio or phone fails. That was never true of the previous D2.

LTE is the quieter upgrade
The integrated LTE is the upgrade most buyers will use every day. Notifications, text messaging, and calls through the watch without a phone in range are now standard for Garmin’s top range. UK plan options route through Garmin’s own connectivity service rather than a consumer carrier, and the pricing is modestly above a mid-tier Apple Watch cellular plan. For pilots who already pay for aeronautical data, adding the connectivity line is trivial.

Aviation data and Pilot app integration
The D2 Mach 2 Pro pairs with Garmin Pilot for logbook sync, PIREPs, and route-to-wrist navigation. The implementation is cleaner than on the original Mach 2. Timer handling during approach phases no longer drops when the watch dims. Direct-to bearing updates in seconds rather than on the old one-Hz cadence. These are small things that matter in the real cockpit.
| Feature | D2 Mach 2 (2024) | D2 Mach 2 Pro (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 1.4" AMOLED | 1.4" AMOLED |
| Satellite comms | No | inReach, two-way |
| LTE | No | Yes, Garmin plan |
| Battery (smartwatch mode) | ~16 days | ~14 days |
| UK price | £1,099 | £1,249 |
Who this is actually for
This is not a watch for the aspirational aviation buyer. A Marq or a Fenix 9 will serve that market better and cost less. The D2 Mach 2 Pro earns its price if you actually fly, and especially if you fly in the UK’s more remote airspace. For VFR pilots on weekend hops around the Lake District or the Scottish Highlands, the combined inReach and Pilot integration is genuinely useful. For urban commercial aviation, most of the premium pays for features the aircraft already provides.

Verdict
The D2 Mach 2 Pro is the first D2 where the price tag aligns with the utility. inReach and LTE turn the watch into a proper communications tool, not just a themed flagship. If you are a UK GA pilot without a comparable satellite solution already, this is a buy. If you already own an inReach Mini, the value equation is thinner. Either way, Garmin has stopped asking customers to pay for aviation branding alone, and that is the watch the D2 line always needed to be.
