Microsoft is finally going to give mobile users something better that the current DeltaSync protocol to have push email support in Hotmail. According to Neowin, coming soon in Windows Live Wave 4, Push mail will be achieved via the Exchange ActiveSync protocol and reach over 300 Million phones that currently support Microsoft Exchange. Today mobile user had to download Microsoft’s Windows Live application on Windows Mobile, BlackBerry etc.. to have push mail support in Hotmail (the application uses the DeltaSync protocol) other mobile OS are stuck with POP3 because Microsoft doesn’t support IMAP yet. Starting with Windows Live Wave 4 in June every Exchange capable handset will be able to sync mails, contacts, calendar and events without the need of any application other than the phone’s native mail client.
The new Hotmail will also feature a single contact list including Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn entries and a new Active Views feature enabling content to be directly accessible through the mail (if somebody sends you a link to a YouTube video you will be able to watch it directly in the mail (if your phone supports flash..)). Microsoft is also introducing new security features into Hotmail that will enable users to easly regain access to their accounts via Account Proofs (with SMS and mobile support) and single codes access for use on public computers (an alternate code will be send to you mobile phone to use it only once to access your Hotmail account)
