You may have noticed that the ChevronWP7.updater was taken down 2 days ago and was later denounced by Microsoft as being an unsafe way to update Windows Phone 7. According to Microsoft:
You might not be getting the important device-specific software we would typically deliver in the official update. Or your phone might get misconfigured and not receive future updates.
This is apparently the reason why people who have used it to update their HTC handsets later got the firmware update as a separate package Update: Chris just informed me that users who didn’t use his tool have also received the HTC update prompt…but this is something I can’t confirm because all the reports I’ve seen about the HTC update come from people who previously used his tool.. C.Walshie just blogged about the issue after Microsoft asked him to take it down:
Because the tool is, in Microsoft”s words, “breaking phones”, I have taken it offline at their request.
While the number of users impacted by this utility is small, I would at least like to communicate that I”m sorry if this tool causes any issues down the road. In a follow-up post, I’ll detail what your next steps should be as official support isn’t an option at this time.
If you are still waiting for the NoDo update your best solution would be to use the IP tunneling trick or just be patient.
