More than a week has passed since the very first Windows Phone 7 update has been pushed to end users in a staged roll out that unfortunately didn’t end up to be as smooth as envision by Microsoft. Many Samsung Omnia 7 and several Focus users were unable to install it on their phones and are still waiting for the fixed update that was said to be out by now. As of right now Samsung devices are no longer prompted to update to the 7008 OS version (not sure about other handset so if anybody can confirm that the whole process has been put on hold just post a comment below). Even thought this update doesn’t bring anything new in terms of features it is required to be installed so that the 7389 NoDo update can be installed on the device once it’s pushed out next week. French website Smartphonefrance seems to have gotten in touch with Orange who told them that as of right now the 7008 has been put on hold for the Samsung devices until the fix is found and on the LG Optimus 7 (Orange is apparently still waiting for Microsoft to clarify the situation).

According to the same Orange source, NoDo is still scheduled to be pushed out next week and a third update which we have never heard of before is planned for an April 11th push (the day MIX11 starts). This third update is said to bring “Local Search” to the OS. But was does local search exactly mean? Is it universal search throughout the OS or Local search in Bing and Bing Maps. I’m guessing that it’s the later given that when I asked MS (@MWC) about an eventual Bing and Bing Maps update in Europe (and France) I was told that the Local features (which is currently only available in the US) will be enabled in H1 2011 in some European countries. I was also told that it may not required a OS update as this a cloud based services that can be remotely triggered on an off by Microsoft. They may have finally decided to push a small OS update locally in Franc (and other EU countries) to enable this after all. Anyway, this is all guessing games right now so let’s just wait a few more days and see how it all pans out.
