According to several HTC users who  have updated their handsets via the ChevronWP7.updater, the Zune software is now showing the availability of a what seems to be a firmware update. OEMs obliviously have the ability to push specific updates to some of their models via the WP7 update system but what’s kinda strange here is that only phone’s updated with the previously mentioned method are being notified of this update.I know that some HTC devices already had their Firmware (radio rom included) updated as part of the NoDo update package so maybe this is related (the weird update method may have prevented the phone from receiving the full update so they are now getting the rest of it?).

UPDATE: Microsoft just confirmed what I tried to guess:

But my strong advice is: wait. If you attempt one of these workarounds, we can’t say for sure what might happen to your phone because we haven’t fully tested these homebrew techniques. You might not be getting the important device-specific software we would typically deliver in the official update. Or your phone might get misconfigured and not receive future updates.

It remains to be seen if other OEMs are planning to do the same thing as we already know for example that there’s a newest Samsung Omnia 7 Firmware in circulation out there (the KA1). Anyway, if you are an HTC owner can you please note down your current firmware version (and all the other info like radio rom, Chip SOC version etc..) and see if it changes after this HTC Update.
