ZDNet.tw and Digitimes are reporting that Garmin-Asus is planning to unveil their first Android based smartphone in a few weeks at MWC in Barcelona. Benson Lin, president of Asustek’s handheld device business unit also said that the company is aiming to launch 4-5 new Windows Mobile or Android phones in 2010. In addition to the Android handset Garmin-Asus will launch the M10 Windows Mobile 6.5.3 device powered by a Qualcomm MSM722è @600Mhz with a 3.5″ WVGA resisitive touchscreen. Interestingly ZDNet.tw is now calling WM6.5.3 by its real codename: Maldives. If you remember, they were the first to mention it a few months ago but got it confused with the Windows Mobile 7 Beta that will probably be available to OEMs shortly.
