You are probably well aware that the Windows Phone 7 marketplace is experience some difficulties today. Users can’t purchase or simply download content from the applications store (paid apps, Free apps, trials, updates etc..) and the Zune Pass service was also apparently down too. I first un-officially heard that a maintenance / update was taking place (another user phoned MS and got the same answer).

But Microsoft is now officially saying that they are looking into the issues and this makes it sound like it was a technical problem all along (or maybe an update gone wrong?). Anyway, things are now getting back to normal (I can download free, trials and app updates).

Update : Microsoft just admitted 24hours later that the cause was scheduled maintenance.
