The Windows Phone 7 drama continues…. After the messed up 7008 update for the Samsung Omnia 7 and Focus devices now comes the Exchange ActiveSync and Windows Live issues. As you probably know by now I finally decided to hard-reset my Omnia 7 to be able to apply the 7008 update to it (because this was the ONLY way to do it). The whole system setup (Live account, calendar, date etc..) went smoothly but I just noticed that my Live accounts are no longer able to sync with the cloud and are greeting me with a 86000206 error message.
What’s strange here is that it has worked at least once after the initial phone setup but seems to have always failed afterward (see the picture above which shows that the account has be failing to sync for 10 hours!). I asked my followers on Twitter and I’m apparently not the only one experiencing this issue. I also confirmed that at least one other person had just updated his Omnia 7 like me so one has to wonder if this is actually linked to the crappy 7008 update. The 86000206 error can mean several things but it principally appears when a Live account isn’t correctly setup. But it’s safe to assume that this isn’t the case here given that it has always perfectly worked and only stopped syncing a few hours ago without any user intervention and it affects all Live accounts setup on the device.
If you are experiencing the same issue can you please post in the comments below and tell us which device you are using, the WP7 rom version and your regional location (in case it’s server outage only affecting a certain region).
UPDATE: The issue has now been fixed by Microsoft. Thanks to Microsoft’s M.Mongeau in the comments below.
UPDATE 2: Everything is syncing again but all previous calendar appointments are now gone (but are still present in the cloud)..strange.
