HTC TITAN Hands on: 4.7 inches of awesomeness

Gigantic! That’s the only word that can describe HTC’s newly announced flagship Windows Phone handset the HTC Titan. Let’s start with device’s hardware specification:

HTC Titan Hardware Specifications:

– Weight:160 grams (5.6 ounces) with battery
– 131.5mm x 70.7mm x 9.9mm (5.18″ x 2.78″ x 0.39″)
– Qualcomm MSM8255 clocked at 1.5Ghz
– 16GB of internal Storage (up to 12.63 GB or available storage)
– 512 MB of Ram
– 8 megapixel camera with F2.2 lens, dual LED flash, and BSI sensor (for better low-light captures)
– 1.3Mpix Front facing camera
– 9.9mm thick
– Aluminum body
– Sensors: Gyro Sensor, G-Sensor, Digital compass, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor
– DLNA support
– SRS Enhancement & 5.1 surround sound
– HSPA/WCDMA: Europe/Asia: 850/900/2100 MHz
– Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
– Battery: 1600 mAh (talk time: WCDMA: Up to 410 minutes GSM: Up to 710 minutes)

Sounds tasty right? Well if only this had a Super AMOLED Plus panned it would be the perfect Windows Phone (still have to test the camera quality though..). The first thing I noted was that the screens viewing angles on the HTC Titan and HTC Radar where definitely an improved compared to HTC’s previous Android and windows Phones as iff the screen was finally merged with the glass (no be air gap between the two). The Titans build quality is simply the best I have ever seen on any HTC device. The aluminum body is really solid and the whole thing is perfectly crafted. 4.7″ is definitely on the huge size but if you love this kind of stuff that the Titan is for you. Only downside is that there’s no more kickstand which is a shame given that the handset’s huge screen would be perfect for long video viewing sessions.

HTC Titan vs Samsung Omnia 7:

The HTC Titan also packs the fast SoC currently certified for Windows Phone 7, the MS8255 clocked at 1.5Ghz (the same as in the HTC Flyer tablet). It will be intersting to see how it performs against the 1Ghz especially in 3D applications now that there no more 30fps limitation for XNA games and that from what I had noticed in my OpenGL benchmarks, the Adreno 205 GPU’s clockrate is linked to the CPU’s.

Both the HTC Titan and HTC Radar will include new HTC applications. among them are the HTC Watch video streaming and renting service that was first introduced on the HTC Flyer tablet, the return of the HTC footprints geolocalization app and a landscape HTC Sense dock UI that will automatically launch when the devices are plugged into there respective docking station which is plug into the device’s micro-usb connector on the side (also introduced in the HTC Flyer and sold separately). HTC has also implemented internet sharing on both devices (USB and WiFi Hotspot/ carrier specific)

Both the HTC Titan and HTC Radar cameras will now feature a panorama shooting similar to LG’s with the use of the device’s motion sensors and burst mode.

Finally both the HTC Titan and HTC Radar will be available on the first week of October in Europe (October 6 to be more specific). The HTC Titan price will be 599 euros ($855) unlocked and the HTC Radar price will be €399 unlocked. Don’t hesitate to ask questions in the comments section below!
