WP BENCH 2 Windows Phone Benchmark coming soon with Mango support an Online charts

Robert Varga who developed WP BENCH for Windows Phone 7 just gave me the heads up about the upcoming version of his benchmarking tool for Windows Phone 7 dubbed WP BENCH 2. This newer version will officially support Mango and include new feature like new UI, online charts, user profile etc.

Regarding the big boost in performance that I have noticed a few days ago, Robert thinks that this may be due to a change in Mango: data blocks smaller than 4.2MB are apparently being written to the devices memory first while a second thread is used to write data to the storage memory. This is why we are seeing such a huge boost in the results (setting the data block size to 5MB shows results similar to NoDo). Looks like a nice OS level optimization that should help boost performance in certain situations. Check out WP BENCH 2 in action after the break:
