Word coming out of last week’s Nokia World event is that the Nokia Maps application will not be exclusive to Nokia handsets (Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710) but also be available to all other Windows Phone handsets running Mango. I double checked and that is indeed true as seen in the official video embedded below where you can clearly here the PM say that the application will be available to all Windows Phone users. Nokia Maps will be a really awesome addition to Windows Phone especially for users in countries where the Bing Maps coverage is essentially crap and don’t have Local Scout available (Nokia Maps has a lot more POIs in it’s database).
Currently the only Nokia exclusive application will be Nokia Drive, Nokia Music, and ESPN Sports Hub. Nokia Maps will most probably be fully integrated into Bing Maps in Windows Phone 8 so there won’t any need for a third party application any more. I’m really looking forward to trying it out in the coming days.
