Breaking news! Apple just announced that Google’s CEO Eric Schimdt is resigning from the Apple’s board. Here’s what Steve Jobs had to say:

“Unfortunately, as Google enters more of Apple’s core businesses, with Android and now Chrome OS, Eric’s effectiveness as an Apple Board member will be significantly diminished, since he will have to recuse himself from even larger portions of our meetings due to potential conflicts of interest. Therefore, we have mutually decided that now is the right time for Eric to resign his position on Apple’s Board.”

This move obviously doesn’t come as a surprise given what has happened during the past months (Android, Chrome, ChromeOS). Now what is going to be interesting is if Google and Apple are still in good terms or is this the start of something bigger given what happened last week with the Google Voice rejections and subsequent FCC investigation.
