Microsoft’s Eric Hautala has just posted an update on the current update situation regarding the issues faced with some of Samsung’s handsets, namely the Omnia 7 and a small batch of Focus in the US. As you probably already know the Samsung Omnia 7 NoDo roll out has been halted last week be cause of unknown technical issues. A new update package is required but no date has been announced yet. This is also the main reason why today’s 7392 security update isn’t apparently being pushed out to Omnia 7 handsets worldwide.

A small number of Samsung Focus owners are also unable to get NoDo because of a different memory component is used in their handset compared to the other Focus device on the Market:

To accommodate high demand for the Focus last year, two separate sources of flash memory components were required during manufacturing. Focus models are identical in all other ways.

Most Focus owners are receiving our updates. But some customers with handsets containing the alternative memory component aren’t. We’re now working closely with Samsung and AT&T to test and deliver an update for this group. As soon as I have more specifics, I’ll let you know.

Finally, the 7392 issued today will also be pushed as a “NoDo” update to the devices that have yet to receive the original NoDo update (the 7392 contains NoDo & the new updated security features and other updated bits and pieces). If you already have the 7390 rom then you will receive 7392 as a stand alone update or a bundle packaged with a future update.
