According to Natasha Kwan, General Manager for Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business in the Asia-Pacific region, the HTC HD2 doesn’t qualify for a Windows Phone 7 Series upgrade ” because it doesn’t have the three buttons”. Tony Wilkinson, Business Operations Director for Microsoft Australia, also added that “there are some hardware components that the HD doesn’t have”. First off, it doesn’t lack the three buttons. It actually has too many buttons (but one is labeled Home instead of Search/Bing). Secondly I directly asked HTC last week about a potential WP7 update for the HD2 and they didn’t rule it out at all, telling me that they can’t speak on this matter yet but that the HD2 is fully capable of running WP7. When Microsoft’s Aaron Woodman was asked the same question saturday night during the Engadget Show he just answered “Come to MIX” and finally Microsoft already officially said that more will be revealed in March:

Remember that until we get an official announcement nothing can be ruled out.
